We Mean Business coalition
We stand in solidarity with the Black community and strongly condemn the killing of Black Americans and the ongoing police violence we see across the United States. The events of the last week are a harsh reminder of the deep, systemic racism that Black Americans face everyday.
As a coalition it is our mission to accelerate an inclusive transition to a net-zero economy, and we cannot achieve that if we stay silent on this issue. Inclusive means for everyone. We know that the climate crisis disproportionately impacts marginalized communities, particularly communities of color. Sustainable economic growth and shared prosperity cannot be achieved without addressing structural inequalities and racism.
We acknowledge the work of community activists and organizers who are leading peaceful protests and working for reform.
Within the climate community we have not done enough to understand and address the interconnectedness of climate change, inequality and racial injustice. We commit to doing better, in both our internal practices and in the diversity of voices and leadership we hold up in our work.
