Letter from We Mean Business Coalition to the COP27 Presidency on fossil fuels phase down
Dear Minister Shoukry,
As representatives of the We Mean Business Coalition, working with some of the world’s biggest companies, we are writing to state our strong support for the inclusion of language around a clean, just energy transition away from fossil fuels in the COP27 cover decisions.
Earlier this week, over 250 companies and civil society leaders signed a statement committing to doing everything in their power to limit global warming to 1.5°C and calling on governments at COP27 to do the same. We are a Coalition that follows the science, and the science makes clear that if we are to limit warming to 1.5°C, we need to phase out all fossil fuels, not just coal.
We stand ready to work with our network of over 9,000 companies taking action to reduce emissions in their operations to support a just transition away from fossil fuels around the world. We look to you to send a strong signal that will unleash the private sector action needed to deliver this energy transition at pace and scale.
Kind regards,
