Natura’s Electric Freight Push
We Mean Business Coalition & Natura
This video is part of our series, Electric Advantage in Action, which spotlights how businesses are capitalizing on the tangible, wide-ranging benefits that come with electrification.
A core part of Brazilian cosmetics giant Natura decarbonization plan starts with freight. Since freight accounts for 20% of its carbon emissions, the company is working closely with suppliers to find ways to cut emissions across its supply chain. Currently, a fifth of its trucks in Brazil are electric, with plans to expand that share.
But that’s only one part of it. Natura is also tackling a major barrier: infrastructure. Many regions across Brazil and Latin America lack the charging infrastructure needed to support electric trucks, so the company is working with governors, policymakers and regional authorities to change that.
Fernanda Facchini, Head of Global Sustainability at Natura, explains that the company is working with regional and national policymakers to roll out the necessary infrastructure to electrify in Brazil and other countries where Natura operates.
Transcript:
Fernanda Facchini, Global Sustainability Director at Natura:
“Twenty percent of our carbon emissions are coming from freight, so we need to find a way to reduce our impact, so we are collaborating with our suppliers.”
“Twenty percent of our trucks are electrified in the region, with that, we reduce almost eighty percent of our emissions coming from freight.”
“The infrastructure to recharge the trucks is not ready in this country, and even in the other countries that we are operating in Latin America.”
“We need to advocate with the governors to establish this, and the companies that are starting to electrify need to have courage because it is not only about cost.”
“Be courageous and try to evolve your agenda in this way.”
