Q&A with HP
We Mean BusinessEvery month we will feature a Q&A with one of the companies that have committed to one or more of our initiatives. We are starting with HP Inc. The company has committed to four commitments: 100% renewable energy, science-based targets, zero deforestation and short-lived climate pollutant emissions reduction targets.
Why has HP Inc. decided to set a 100% renewable energy goal, science-based targets, zero deforestation and/or short-lived climate pollutant emissions reduction targets? How does this fit into your business strategy?
HP’s commitment to use 100% renewable electricity supports the company’s ongoing efforts to reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions across its technology portfolio, operations, and supply chain.
The company recognizes that lowering its carbon footprint is critical to its long-term business sustainability and contributes to its customers’ success. The renewable electricity goal also highlights one of the steps HP is taking to improve operational efficiencies and support the company’s business growth, without increasing its carbon footprint.
Similarly HP continues to reduce its environmental impact within its supply chain. For example, the company has committed to support the Climate and Clean Air Coalition’s Global Green Freight Action Plan and its priority goals, which focus on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, air pollutants, and black carbon. Among the actions HP will take is to benchmark, track, report on, and reduce black carbon emissions from its freight operations.
The first company in the IT industry to set GHG emission reduction goals across its operations, supply chain, and products, HP has also committed to set a science-based target. These efforts reflect the company’s commitment to drive activities in line with recognized climate science—and are expected to help HP reinvent how it operates in order to reduce emissions across its entire value chain.
What value does HP Inc. see in joining the 400+ companies that have taken action through We Mean Business?
HP believes it is essential for like-minded companies around the world to come together to help address the root causes of climate change. Through collaboration, HP and other industry leaders can clearly articulate the need to build a low-carbon economy, while also better understanding the best practices that can enable them to accelerate their own efforts.
At the same time, these types of collaborations support HP’s overall sustainability efforts, which include engineering solutions that help reinvent how businesses, communities, and individuals thrive, as well as working closely with its supply chain partners to help them reduce energy use and GHG emissions.
