We Mean Business Coalition
The UN’s new Limiting Overshoot report is a stark assessment of where the world now stands. Global temperatures are likely to cross 1.5°C, with every additional fraction of a degree increasing risks to people, economies and nature.
But the scale and duration of that overshoot are not fixed. The choices governments and businesses make now will determine how high temperatures peak, how long the world remains above 1.5°C and how severe the resulting impacts become.
The priority is clear: accelerate clean electricity, electrify transport, buildings and industry, cut methane and other superpollutants, protect and restore nature, and strengthen adaptation and resilience.
Every fraction of a degree avoided reduces risk, and every year of overshoot shortened limits damage.
Ahead of COP31, governments and businesses must move faster on the solutions already available and keep the pathway back towards 1.5°C open.
