COP28 in Dubai ended with a historic agreement to accelerate the transition away from fossil fuels in line with science. COP29 must build on the progress of the UAE Consensus and accelerate the transition from the fossil fuel era to a clean-energy, nature-positive future.

This year’s summit saw world governments negotiating the critical post-2025 deal on climate finance. Achieving a robust deal was essential to build trust and derisk and direct private finance towards the transition. Meanwhile, governments continue to prepare the new national climate plans – nationally-determined contributions, (NDCs) – that they have agreed to communicate by early 2025.

Ahead of heads of state meting at the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, they had an opportunity to galvanize policy negotiations at COP29 in Baku. We coordinated a statement with Mission 2025 and networks connecting more than 38,000 businesses around the world deliver a powerful message to G20 leaders. See the statement
