Accelerating the shift from fossil fuels to clean energy

Despite great strides in scaling up clean solutions, global emissions continue to rise. That’s because we have not done enough to scale down the primary driver of climate change: burning fossil fuels.

The Fossil to Clean campaign was launched in 2023, as a global movement of businesses going from fossil fuels to clean solutions. By taking action to phase out fossil fuels, companies send a clear market signal to energy suppliers, capital providers and governments to accelerate the provision of affordable, reliable and secure alternatives.

Business urges governments to go fossil to clean

At COP28, over 260 companies representing > $1.6 trillion in global annual revenue urged national governments to phase out fossil fuels and scale up clean energy. Faced with resounding demands for action across the globe, world leaders agreed on the UAE Consensus, to accelerate the transition from fossil fuels to clean energy solutions.

Since then, the Coalition has galvanized business and government action to deliver on this historic commitment. Broadening the vision set out in Fossil to Clean, we have launched a new multi-year program, Electric Advantage, that focuses on accelerating the shift to electrified economies.

Analysis – Power Up: How Clean Energy Is Putting Fossil Fuel Demand in Doubt

Despite record investment in clean energy, the fossil fuel industry is still anticipating long-term growth in fossil fuel demand. We Mean Business Coalition brought together leading experts from Energy Transitions Commission, Ember and E3G to develop an analysis that looks at how trends in electrification and clean energy are affecting fossil fuel demand — showing that demand for each is set to slow or peak in the near future, and reaffirms momentum in clean energy deployment globally.

Guidance – Business Action Checklists

The Business Action Checklists provide practical guidance on the actions companies can take over the next two to five years to reduce their reliance on fossil fuels across energy efficiency and buildings, electricity procurement, transportation and process heat. The checklists include step-by-step guidance, case studies, recommended resources and a project management tool to help businesses become more competitive and reduce dependency to volatile fossil energy prices.
