We Mean Business Coalition welcomes the recent statement from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) on the approved use of environmental attribute certificates such as carbon credits to address Scope 3 emissions. SBTi is an integral part of global decarbonization efforts and this reform will expand the science-based tools available to companies to accelerate urgently needed climate action.
The voice of business on this issue is clear. Companies value SBTi and are committed to delivering on their emissions reductions targets, but need greater clarity on how to navigate Scope 3 emissions. This change empowers companies to bring more innovation and investment into cutting emissions from their value chains, whilst also bringing in much needed funding for climate projects in the Global South.
